New Opportunity for UN Reform

“Reinvigorating Multilateralism ” was the important call of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres now on 24 August at the BRICS Summit in South Africa! Just 20 years ago, in September 2003, the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called on and launched the UN Reform process! Inspired by this, I initiated and co-authored a study as a position paper of the Swiss Protestant Churches. It was published in 2005 under the title “Reforms for Strengthening the United nations” (free download here: https://lnkd.in/e982ZDsh). Let us take the expansion of BRICS in 2024 and other shifts in Geopolitics as an opportunity for “UN 2.0”: A multilateral system, e.g. with a recomposed Security Council, which reflects the situation and needs towards 2030 and overcomes the current UN structure, which is still based on post WW2. The fractured, polarized world has to be replaced by new binding cooperation! Let me know your reactions on the Reform proposals in the above mentioned study, done in the perspective of and based on values of Global Ethics.
