Tunisian universities partner with Globethics to prepare new generations for ethical leadership
On 12 June 2023, international organization Globethics, which works towards ethical leadership through higher education and global engagement, launched its new Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) Centre in Tunis, headed by Regional Consul Kamel Ayadi, an international consultant and civil society activist in the fields of anti-corruption, ethics, governance, corporate social responsibility, and social accountability and former Minister of Public Service, Governance, and Anti-corruption for Tunisia.
On the occasion of its inauguration, the MENA Centre held an international seminar on the ethical challenges and social impact of Artificial Intelligence, attended by over 100 people representing academia, national authorities and civil society organizations and with a strong local media presence. Kamel Ayadi, speaking on Artificial Intelligence: Promises, Risks and the Role of Intermediary Organisations, stressed the urgent need for ethical and legal frameworks in the fields of AI and other emerging technologies.
Darina Saliba, Professor of International Law and Director of the International Centre for Human Sciences (UNESCO – Lebanon), highlighted the role of UNESCO and the future of international law in facing the ethical and legal risks of AI. In his presentation, Karim Ben Khala, Professor at the Tunis Business School, which signed a cooperation agreement with Globethics during the event, explored the question of whether AI is a threat to national security.
Interventions were also shared by Fadi Daou, Globethics Executive Director, on transformational ethical leadership – Globethics’ vision – as a response to the challenges of our times, and Christoph Stückelberger, Founder and President, who presented his latest publication: Data Ethics: How Digital Technologies Can Serve Humanity.
Tunisian universities have already shown great enthusiasm for working with Globethics to uphold ethics in higher education. Five public and private higher education institutions signed cooperation agreements with Globethics during the launch, with more partnerships in progress.
The Faculty of Legal, Economic and Management Sciences of Jendouba, Tunis Business School, the Central University Group, the International Polytech Private Faculty, Pristini School of AI, and Avicenna Private Business School have joined the Globethics mission to equip future generations for ethical leadership to face current and future challenges.
